One Room Challenge: Kitchen

There are some big things going on in the Sears house. First, we are moving houses this week. We sold our old house, and now we are moving into an older home in our neighborhood that needs some love. The hard things about this house are finished. There is a new fence, A/C, windows, and the pool is redone, but it needs a lot of work on the cosmetic side of things. Which is great for me because that is what I LOVE to do. So over the next few months, you will see Matt and I work on projects in this house. I am so excited to show yall what I have planned.

The second thing is the first project I am tackling in this house is...the Kitchen. I love to cook, and eat, and drink, so I spend a lot of time in the Kitchen. So I am working on this room first, so I can start enjoying this room as soon as possible. Even more exciting is that I will be working on this room as a guest participant in the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge. This is a challenge that designers across the country can participate in. The goal is to completely transform a room in six weeks, so I am going to be completely transforming the Kitchen in six weeks. I cannot wait!

This room has good bones, which will make my job easier, but it needs a lot of cosmetic work. Here is what the room currently looks like:

My favorite thing about this Kitchen are the cabinets. These are killer. Each of these cabinets has pull out drawers and so much storage. So I am not going to be replacing the cabinets. I am also going to be keeping the floors because they are in the rest of the house and keeping the granite. I would not pick either of these finishes, but they are not terrible, so in an effort to keep costs low, I am going to work with these finishes.

This is my plan for the room:

  • Paint the interior of the cabinets - they are a gross light beige/white/yellow

  • Paint the exterior of the cabinets

  • Paint the walls and trim

  • Install backsplash

  • Replace the hardware

  • Replace the appliances

  • Replace the faucet

  • Replace light fixtures

I have found some great pieces and colors for this space. Check out the mood board I am channeling over the next six weeks.

Follow along with me over the next six weeks as I completely transform this kitchen.
