2021 Project Plan

As we begin 2021, I am putting together all the projects I want to accomplish for 2020. Of course I have a list that is a mile long. We moved into a fixer upper at the end of 2020 with the intention of redoing each of the rooms one by one. The home was livable enough to live here comfortably while we made our way through renovating these rooms.

New Fixer Upper We Moved Into In 2020

One of my goals for 2021 is to focus on taking my time and living in the moment of my projects instead of trying to get as many projects done as quick as I can. If you know me, this is going to be a tough one. But if I have learned anything during my 2020 quarantine, it is to rest, slow down, and enjoy life. I want to bring that vibe to 2021 and my projects.

So instead of listing all the projects I want to do to this house, I am going to list the top 5 projects I want to accomplish in 2021. I am going to take my time doing these projects, and I am going to be okay with changing these priorities. For now, this is what I am feeling will be the best use of time and functionality for our home in 2021. If I accomplish more or less, that is okay too.

2021 Projects

1. Master Bedroom

I feel like I need to preface that this is the photo on our house listing when we purchased it. This is not our bed. This is the first project I am working on in 2021. I spend a lot of my time in our bedroom, I think it is really important to have a bedroom I feel comfortable in. While I do not have to do a huge renovation in this space. It definitely needs a facelift. I am thinking an accent wall, new paint, new decor, and definitely new closet organization.

2. Family Room

This family room is probably going to be my biggest project yet. This room is going to require a lot of demo. I need to take down the paneling, built ins, and the bar. Once I get that finished, I am going to shiplap some of the walls, create a built-in media console, rebuild the bar, replace the floors, and make this room livable! It is going to be a big one, but should have a really great before and after.

3. Dining Room

This is a terrible picture of our dining room, but it's the best I've got right now. I will get a better picture for y'all. We don't use this room a ton, but it is the first room you see when you walk into the house. It is an eyesore. The room right now is disjointed because none of the furniture matches. To top it off, the dining table is too small. It needs some work. I want to paint some of the furniture, paint the room, add board and batten, and build a new dining table.

4. Patio

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I love a good patio. One of the big selling points for us when we bought this house was the backyard. We love the pool, and believe it or not, we love this patio. We love the patio because it is covered, we can use it as an additional living space, and it has a ton of potential. I kept the DIY sectional I did last year, so I have some good decor, but it needs a little more. I am thinking about turning the console table into a media console, adding a bar, adding a table, and building some pool furniture. I may even paint the concrete. What do yall think about that?

5. Downstairs bathroom

This downstairs bathroom also doubles as the bathroom guests use when they come to our home. While there are not a ton of guests coming over, we are quarantining with our family, so we want to have a functional bathroom for them. My goal for this project is to keep it low cost. I don't love the marble, but I am going to keep it and design around that. I am thinking paint, a new vanity, and peel and stick floor tile. I am excited to tackle this one!

What projects are you tackling in 2020?
